senior citizen bryan ferry begs twenty year old to take him back

In bryan ferry on 30 March 2008 at 5:41 am

i lost track of bryan ferry years ago. but what is it with men tossing their wives over and abandoning their grown children to replay their swinging bachelor years. doesn’t he know that any twentysomething backing singer would love to hang out with a pensioner with wads of cash and give birth so as to insure that she is taken care of while he is in the afterlife. just ask rupert murdoch.

vogue and anna wintour get it all wrong with lebron james

In anna wintour, fashion, gisele bundchen, lebron james, umberto eco on 29 March 2008 at 11:50 am

the new issue of vogue features lebron james in a hulking pose next to a fay wray-like waif called gisele bundchen. is it racist? you betcha. was it done intentionally? well aside from wintour’s lone BF who interviews the likes of gwyneth paltrow and has most likely never stepped foot in a black neighborhood, one could conceivably give vogue a pass, like bill clinton might say. but i have chosen not to.

although the real controversey is, why is it that the umlaut in bundchen’s name is yanked out in american publications, i would suggest annie lebovitz and anna wintour pick up a copy of any random book on semiotics especially the ones written by umberto eco.

spies in the pews as trinity united church of christ is hounded

In barack obama, politics on 28 March 2008 at 7:19 pm

this should bother us all. now journalists religiously (so-to-speak) descend upon obama’s church, trinity united church of christ on the south side of chicago to take notes and to you know act like joe mccarthy did during the ‘red scare’ in the u.s. when he was trying to root out communism. you know, that evil -ism which allowed millions of people to not be homeless and have free health insurance. the denomination, which is primarily made of of white churches, is slowly coming to its rescue. it is ludicrous that reverend wright is being called a racist based on a series of 30 second snippets from a 2 hour sermon.

emo in mexico

In music on 27 March 2008 at 8:13 pm

i’ve always detested this term ‘emo’ when it started being used in the 90s to describe the sound coming from these chicago and dc indie record labels. emotional teen angst it was. although a lot of 20 somethings embraced it as well. at the moment, i can’t for the life of me recall one viable band from this era. but the look of the so-calle movement is so 1980s. the sound is grounded in the 80s as well. think morrissey and the smiths. whiney wrenching music with a touch of the euro-trash look. apparently emo has made it to mexico. and this is not sitting so well with traditional macho-latin culture.

chelsea versus monica lewinsky

In chelsea, politics on 26 March 2008 at 4:59 pm

of course this video is still making the rounds. ‘that’s none of your business!’ she screeched at a poor unassuming young man. this being indiana, where even the locals are proud to be called hoosiers and even the democrats are right wing republicans, chelsea was most likely questioned about the monica lewinsky scandal by a member of you know, young americans for freedom. but the real question is, what will be the long-term fall-out for chelsea clinton who is almost 30 and makes around 300K per year from a hedge fund, bitching out a poor indiana college student? will the college co-eds at butler boycott hillary clinton during the indiana primaries? you know, the primary hillary clinton forgot to register for because she just knew she’d have the nomination wrapped up after super tuesday.

In publishing on 26 March 2008 at 4:32 pm

In billary, chelsea, hillary rodham clinton, politics, sinbad on 25 March 2008 at 7:01 pm

chelsea clinton, the kid who makes 200K plus slugging away at a hedge fund –which apparently has no qualms with giving her extended time off hopefully with pay, was in bloomington indiana today whooping it up with a bunch of people. indiana is the only place in the world where people are proud to be called hoosiers. during her speech, chelsea was asked about her mother’s bosnia-pinocchio moment. to which she basically replied, ‘i support my mom.’ maybe she meant as in old age. hillary claims she was sleep-deprived and misspoke. could it be possible that she was having a post-menopausal-senior moment? sinbad, where are you when we need you?

la opinion weighs in on obama unity speech

In barack obama, hillary rodham clinton, politics on 23 March 2008 at 11:56 pm

california based la opinion endorsed barack obama last january heading into super tuesday. while the spanish language newspaper didn’t put obama over the top, it most definitely helped him halve the 20 point lead hillary clinton had in january.

billary clinton campaign tactic reverend wright

In barack obama, bill clinton, billary, politics on 18 March 2008 at 6:55 pm

so what’s hillary clinton’s campaign up to? well, tagging barack obama as a candidate only for one minority group while slowly slicing the others away. here’s how their doing in this time around. 1.) trot geraldine ferraro out and let her claim sexism is worse than racism and accuse the media of reverse racism 2.) edit 30 second loops out-of-context of a 2 hour sermon and then hand them around to the media 3.) get your friends at the wall street journal to write about it. 4.) trot bill clinton out to do the TV rounds to deny that he’s injected race into the whole campaign and so on and so on. then watch the white american vote get wedged from barack obama. that’s a bit whatdick morris thinks. and he ought to know, he used to work for the clintons. forgive the typos.

In saturday night live, televsion on 16 March 2008 at 3:14 pm

gotta wonder what’s going on at SNL. there should be strict laws about equal time for candidates. but 3 weeks of pro-hillary skits is a bit much. it was cute that they let mike hucakbee on. but he didn’t slam john mccain. but whatever. i guess the halloween skit was okay for humanizing obama. but the primaries were not in full swing.

In Film, andrew davies, jj feild on 16 March 2008 at 11:31 am

i was hoping to see jj feild in the somewhat well reviewed ring around the moon next month while i’m in london. but unfortunately, the play will be closing early.

rented northanger abbey last night. it was a choice between that and mansfield park. obvisouly, there were other choices in the video store. but at that moment in my mind those were the only 2 films worth renting. i shouldn’t say i was disappointed, because i wasn’t. could one ever be disappointed in a film written by andrew davies? there were actually some rather good and poignant moments in the film. essentially, it’s a comedic parody of a gothic novel by jane austen. although i was not overly impressed by the dream sequences, i would say it was beyond tolerable.

i’m a little disappointed that websites like BET and blackvoices.com have failed to feature patterson on their homepages. but i guess that’s because he’s not a rapper and he attended an ivy league school.

SNL and minstrel shows

In televsion on 14 March 2008 at 9:07 pm

is it okay for Saturday Night Live actor fred armisen to blacken up his face to play well, a black man. loads of people have a problem with that. as, well it harpens back to the days of white actors downing paint to demean blacks and native americans. and let’s not get talking about david carradine and asian-americans. so fred joins angelina jolie and robert downey jr in this vein. this must be like, a new hollywood trend of hollyweird nostalgia.

geraldine ferraro and affirmative action voting

In geraldine ferraro, politics on 14 March 2008 at 4:26 am

it was always a bit curious that she was chosen to be walter mondale’s vice presidential running mate. there was nothing really which distinguished her. and that he, a northern liberal ran with an east coast liberal against ronald reagan, the great communicator was a bit of a mistake as together, they went on to lose 49 states. but i guess mondale’s people thought they could rally american women, who make up over 50% of the u.s. population, to his side. they of course forgot about republican women.

so ferraro, a member of hillary clinton’s finance committee, spent the first part of the week on the morning shows trying to defend her declaration that obama doesn’t really get votes because the whole campaign is a front because he’s only leading the democratic race because of affirmative action voting. because you know, those people in idaho (a state, which according to the clinton campaign, doesn’t count) didn’t really vote for barack obama 79% to 17 %.

bbc gets it wrong on the u.s. election and billary clinton

In barack obama, billary, politics on 10 March 2008 at 9:35 pm

this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7287595.stm
is a complete farce. the journalist only lists the popular vote for selective states and not all states. –all the states not listed were won by barack obama. she decides to include florida, votes which aren’t acknowledged by the party because the state broke party rules. but then doesn’t include michigan, which has the same problems.

pleeeeeze do some fact checking. i luv the bbc:-)

white women biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action

In hillary rodham clinton, politics on 6 March 2008 at 4:59 am

when people discuss affirmative action in the u.s.–what france’s nicholas sarkozy calls, positive discrimination, from ronald reagan to rush limbaugh, these people always speak of it in terms of race. when in fact the civil rights admendment was really about women.

actually, statistically speaking, white women are the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action. this fact is backed up by time magazine. once (and still) universities gave women an edge for entrance. and now women outnumber men in higher education. female college sports are given equal financial backing as male sports, but to tell you the truth, nobody cares about women’s basketball or softball. and if women are equal to men, why not let women play you know, with a harderball? are these all questions worth asking?

people like gloria steinhem and billary rodham clinton have gotten in the door via the back door. so why are these women so incessant on whining about being abused by the media? if obama started screaming about all the code words the clintons have been using to get all the white supremecists riled up, he would be ridiculed by both the clintons and the press.

there is nothing wrong with elevating everyone to the same playing field. i just think some of the beneficiaries in the united states have forgotten that they start their ballgame with a few extra players and occassionally need to be reminded of this.

norway just recently mandated that the boards of every company that has over a certain number employees must be 40% female. is this fair? well, the norwegians (for the most part) have accepted the argument that it’s a bit insane to relugate a huge percentage of your population to low paying, unrewarding jobs. and that diversity is a win-win scenario for everyone. well, except for the men who some companies had to remove from their jobs. but the scandinavians always have a way of sorting things out. a lot of companies now have outside advisors.

pledged delgates obama has led since january

In barack obama, billary, hillary rodham clinton, politics on 2 March 2008 at 3:51 am

don’t let billary clinton fool you. barack obama has led the delegate count since he won iowa. he won iowa by 8 points, lost new hampshire by 2 points. but in new hampshire, he picked up 1 less delegate than hillary. in the next race, nevada, although he lost the popular vote, he won nevada by 1 delegate.

after that there was the blow out in south carolina. super tuesday gave the 2 a bit of a draw, but obama won more states and won his states by larger margins than hillary.

what happened with california and obama’s lead. well the economist just thinks it’s the goofy pollsters. but california had early voting. so people started voting fully 1 month prior to the election when the perception was that hillary clinton would be the nominee. CA picking hillary is yet another sign that the western state is completely out of touch with the rest of the u.s.

jack nicholson, yet another senior citizen for hillary clinton

In politics on 2 March 2008 at 3:50 am

well jack nicholson and rob reiner weigh in with the geriatric vote. which will probably switch to mccain in november.

but the real question is does the u.s. need a senator as president? probably not, but baring an act of god which would give mike huckabee or ron paul a boost, either john mccain or barack obama will be the next president.
